Kevin Willmott is a Professor in the Film Studies Department of Kansas University. Willmott wrote and directed the critically acclaimed feature films Ninth Street, C.S.A: Confederate States Of America and Destination Planet Negro. He also worked with acclaimed filmmaker, Spike Lee on the films Chi-Raq and the soon to be released BlackkKlansman. Wilmott will bring his expertise to bear in this presentation that will examine the historical and present representation of African Americans in film and television. Wilmott will also discuss how his body of work, which is often rooted in satire, fits into the broader context of African American filmmaking.
