Research Services

The Black Archives of Mid-America offers several research services. The Collection Librarian is available to answer information requests. Patrons may also schedule a research appointment with the Collection Librarian to use materials in the holdings of the Black Archives of Mid-America. Digital reproductions of documents and photographs can be provided for a fee.

To submit an information request:

The Collection Librarian can use the holdings to answer specific research inquiries. To submit an information request, contact the Collection Librarian by telephone at 816.221.1600, by email at info@blackarchives.org, or by sending an inquiry to the mailing address below. Make your request as specific as possible, including all known names, dates, and places.

To schedule a research appointment:

The holdings of the Black Archives of Mid-America are open to researchers by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, contact the Collection Librarian by telephone at 816.221.1600, by e-mail at info@blackarchives.org, or by sending an inquiry to the mailing address below.

Be advised, researchers are required to register once every calendar year. Researchers are asked to provide one form of photo identification as part of the registration process.

To order a digital reproduction of a document or photograph:

The Black Archives of Mid-America is able to provide low and high resolution digital reproductions of documents and photographs in its holdings for a fee. Low resolution images can be delivered by email; high resolution images can be delivered through a Google Drive link or placed on a CD to either be picked up at the Black Archives or delivered through regular mail.

Patrons are responsible for adhering to rules regarding publication and use of requested digital reproductions as well as United States copyright law.
